Week 3
This week is when I start "potty training" the kittens. The kittens are slowly starting to move around their nest. As such I will add a small litter pan to their area with some of mom's urine. I start the process of training with a small location and slowly start expanding the area as they get older. I use cedar chips because it is easier, less expensive and healthier to replace the daily. I don't scoop, I just replace. ***I don't replace as often when potty training to ensure the smell in the litter box is imprinted. The use of cedar chips is likely not ideal for a family, although completely manageable. I do not have a litter recommendation, only because I have not personally tried or researched the different brands. If you chose a litter other then the cedar chips, you will want to at least buy a small bag to add on top of the brand you have decided to use. As the kittens get use to the litter box you can slowly reduce the amount of cedar chips and use only your litter.
