Thai Cats

Thai cats are the registered name for the old-style Siamese, shown in
The International Cat Association (TICA). The Internet tends to distort or
manipulate information to the public regarding the looks of the Siamese.
For the last 30 years major registries from around the world have adopted and
utilized only one standard to encompass the elegant look of the Siamese.
Unfortunately this look did not represent the Siamese first imported from Siam
known as the Wichien-Maat, a welcome which is still seen in Thailand today.
As a result registries in Europe and the International Cat Association
have embraced a familiar look within the Siamese family to be shown.
Please be cautious when dealing with breeders or organizations that do not
identify major registries as their source for registering all of their breeding
cats and future kittens. Siamese can come in a variety of shapes, sizes
and colors however only authentic pedigrees will establish the true nature of
the particular cat. The Thai cats in TICA have pedigrees which either show
importation from Thailand or Siamese heritage. Cat which have unknown
ancestry or domesticated cats are not considered either Siamese or Thai cats.
Below you will find the breed standards for the Thai cats in English, German,
French, Italian, Dutch, and soon Finish. Additionally a presentation
authored by me ( Amy Adolph) for PREOSSIA, helps demonstrate the ideal look of
the Thai cats. Please feel free to e-mail me with any questions or
comments regarding the Thai cats.
